This issue of the Student Jobs List features six WVU departments that are actively recruiting student workers. Check out the great opportunities!

1. Adventure WV offers orientation for trip leaders on Monday evening.
2. Tutors for all subjects are paid $8.50 per hour by Upward Bound.
3. Catering is recruiting 30 student workers for the new Alumni Center.
4. Stalnaker Dining Room announces shift vacancies.
5. Evansdale Café, Gold ‘n Brew Café and the Lyon’s Den are hiring all shifts.
6. Work the breakfast shift at Arnold’s Diner.

Looking for a cool summer job? Do you enjoy spending time in the outdoors? Adventure WV is now accepting applications for Summer ‘09 Trip Leader positions!! We are looking for motivated, energetic, and outgoing individuals to join this summer’s leadership team. Adventure WV (AWV) is a unique orientation program for incoming WVU students that gives participants an opportunity to learn about WVU and make friends in a relaxed outdoor environment. AWV leaders facilitate participants through activities such as: rock climbing, backpacking, whitewater rafting, Habitat for Humanity, challenge course events and more?Past outdoor experience preferred but not necessary, we will provide all necessary training through our 3-credit leader training course. AWV offers competitive pay with opportunities to continue leading trips with WVU’s Trips program?A great way to experience America’s great outdoors and get paid doing it!!

2. Earn $8.50 per hour. Start your career as a tutor with the Upward Bound Program. Tutors are needed in all subjects. Math and the Lab Sciences (Chemistry, Biology, and Physics) are in high demand. Hours are typically between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. You can work one day or all three! Tutors meet with high school participants on an individual and a small group basis at their home high school. Participating schools include nearby Clay-Battelle, Preston and Grafton High Schools. Transportation is provided by the program.

MININUM QUALIFICATIONS:

-Full-time graduate or undergraduate student at WVU

-Cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale

-29 or more earned credit hours (sophomore standing)

APPLICATION PROCESS:

Applicants must submit a completed application (available on the website), an academic transcript (may be unofficial), a copy of your student schedule from STAR (block format), and two letters of reference from an instructor, employer, staff member, or person who can speak to your abilities and/or character.

3. WVU Catering needs you today at the new WVU Alumni Center on the Evansdale campus! Gain valuable experience by:

-setting up events

-gather refreshment materials for workshops and seminars

-serve customers at receptions, banquets and formal dinners

-take down the event

Work schedules are made by self-assignment. Select the event that best fits into your schedule. Students may work up to 20 hours per week and the entry pay rate is $7.50 per hour. Wait staff experience is a plus but now required. Good customer service skills are required. Lauren Mayer, Alumni Center catering manager will train you for this important job. Uniforms are provided. Interested students may pick up an application in the Office of Student Employment (located over the Bookstore). 4. Are you looking for the perfect job to fit around your class schedule? Stalnaker Dining Room has the job for you! Rate of pay is $7.25 per hour. The downtown location is ideal. The following shifts need student workers immediately:

8AM -11PM – M, W, TH, F

11AM -2PM – M-TH

4PM – 9PM – M, W

11AM – 3PM – F

The Office of Student Employment has applications for this job. Drop by the office (located above the Book Store in the Mountainlair) between 8:15 a.m. and 4:45 p.m. daily.

5. Work in your residence hall and earn some extra cash. Dining Services in the Evansdale Residential Complex is hiring students for all shifts Monday through Sunday. Evening and weekend hours are available. The rate of pay is $7.25 per hour. Applications are available at the Office of Student Employment located above the Book Store in the Mountainlair.

6. Do you like to work in the morning? Consider working for Dining Services at Arnold’s Diner. You can work up to 20 hours per week on the breakfast shift. The hours that need covered are 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., Monday through Friday. Will your schedule allow you to work 2 of these shifts? If so, go to the Office of Student Employment (located above the Book Store in the Mountainlair) and pick up an application. Start your job right away.
