Presenting: The 2007 Honors Bookclub

Zachary | September 4th, 2007

To all students in the Honors College:

We are pleased to announce that we will be offering the Honors College Bookclub again this Fall and that Dr. Garbutt will lead two of the five sessions in a discussion of Sex, Time, and Power by Leonard Shlain. If you are interested in the evolution of the behavioral patterns between men and women, this may be the book for you.

We will have an organizational meeting at 5:00 PM on Tuesday, September 11th in the Honors Office – 248 Stalnaker Hall. The first discussion will be led by Dr. Garbutt at 5:30 PM on Wednesday, September 26th. The following two meetings will be led by Cookie Schultz and the final lecture will be at a dinner party – hosted by Dr. and Mrs. Garbutt – on Wednesday, November 28th, 2007. You will receive 1 Honors credit for attendance at all five sessions and for writing a 5-7 page paper.

Donald Johanson, author of Lucy: the Beginnings of Mankind, has called Shlain’s book “compelling, scholarly, thought-provoking . . . (it) brings a stimulating new perspective to the question of what it means to be human.”

We have room for only 15 students, so sign up by adding your name to the Bookclub form in the Honors Office. If you have any questions, please call Cookie Schultz at 594-3329.
