Honors 498 – Greek Epic, Comedy, & Tragedy: Classic Texts In Films and On Stage

We have just received a new Honors class. We are currently working to get a room to hold it in. It will probably be a Tues/Thur class. If you are interested please stop by the Honors Office where we will be keeping a list of interested students.

Course Description

WHAT?S FUNNY? WHAT?S NOT?

This course focuses on the legacies of Homer?s Iliad and Odyssey, and Greek comedy and drama by Aristophanes, Euripides, and Sophocles, among others. In addition to reading from the texts, we will consider film and theatrical productions of these classic works, and contemporary films that recall and recycle their ancient themes, including “Oh, Brother, Where Art Thou,” “Troy,” “Coming Home,” ?The Gospel at Colonus,? and “Forrest Gump.”
