A Trip With Professor Schultz
The Honors College is pleased to announce an exciting trip to Charleston, WV on Friday, November 9, 2007.
We will be hosted by Randall Reid Smith, Commissioner of Culture and History for the State of West Virginia. We will leave Morgantown at 7:30 AM and begin our tour in Charleston by 10:30 AM. The schedule is as follows:
~10:30 AM: visit the Governor’s Mansion
~11:15 AM: visit the State Capitol
~12:00 – 12:35 PM : lunch catered by the Blue Grass Kitchen (in the Green Room of the Cultural Center) and paid for by the Honors College
~12:45: tour of the Cultural Center and Museum
~1:30-2:15: visit the Supreme Court Building
Highlights of the day will include: an appreciation of the state rooms of the Governor’s Mansion (recently renovated by Vivien Woofter of Washington, D.C. and Morgantown), a meeting with the Governor and Mrs. Manchin, and a meeting with personnel in the state archives, historic preservation, and museum divisions. We hope to leave Charleston at about 2:45 PM after a photo op. We will return home by 5:30 PM.
We have room for 10 students. If you are interested, please sign up in the Honors Office; we will operate on a first come, first served basis. Please make use of this great opportunity! Only a few groups ever get the kind of inside look into the historic preservation process that we are being offered.
